Wine barrel garden at our front "lawn"
We’ve given up trying to landscape the front lawn. Call it lack of imagination or perhaps just a greater desire to eat stuff that we grow ourselves. These wine barrels were purchased at the Half Moon Bay Nursery for about $18 (cheaper if you’re in Napa but imagine hauling the stuff back home). Costs are comparable if you were to build your own containers which would include gopher wire and high-quality (ie. not pressure-treated) wood.
As you can see, the seedlings are doing great. We’re growing parsnips, bok choi, leaf lettuce and spinach. Here’s what it looks like on Plangarden.
